JCDecaux OOH Drives Brand Impact at Lollapalooza

Year after year, Lollapalooza represents one of Chicago’s highest concentrations of Gen Z and Millennial consumers, drawing over 400,000 attendees every year. That means there are premium opportunities for high-visibility digital and static out-of-home activations with location-based audience targeting, attracting a broad roster of advertisers across industries looking to resonate with festivalgoers.

Some event sponsors take advantage of the momentum of large-scale events like Lollapalooza by leveraging real-life parallel activations with outdoor advertising, drawing attendees to physical spaces to engage with their products and potentially make purchases throughout the weekend. Above all, brands choose to align themselves with iconic, culturally significant events so that even those not attending might take notice of the brand and engage.

Patron’s Bus Shelter Takeover Puts Brand Front and Center in the Action

Across the street from Grant Park, Lollapalooza’s official venue, Patron transformed a JCDecaux bus shelter with a full vinyl wrap, in addition to four others near the festival grounds. With 100% share of voice in a prime location, the brand effectively created a mini billboard at eye level, encouraging passersby to stop and bring their attention to the installation. Given the high-traffic area where festivalgoers are continuously passing through, Patron was able to reach a diverse group of consumers in a shared environment, influencing their alcohol choices at the festival.

Reach Lollapalooza Attendees Beyond Festival Lines

While Grant Park is the festival site, attendees’ activity extends throughout downtown Chicago before, during, and after each day of the event weekend. Ads target nearby frequented bars, restaurants, hotels, and transit hubs to reach festival attendees wherever they are, creating multiple touchpoints for brands to maintain visibility. JCDecaux’s street furniture network in Chicago reaches audiences in a high-traffic environment, priming ad viewers as they encounter brand messaging through repeated exposure. Asserting a continuous, unmissable presence allows advertisers to stay top of mind as festival attendees make decisions throughout the day about where to shop, eat, and have leisure time in between festival activities.

OOH Amplifies Top Summertime Activities

Large festivals are just one avenue for advertisers to capitalize on elevated consumer activity. Family entertainment and cultural attractions are some of the many other activities Chicago offers to locals and tourists alike, creating ample opportunities for OOH to shine. Whether reaching people on the road in nation-leading traffic congestion on the city’s only digital expressway billboards, or intercepting audiences on the street, OOH offers the chance for advertisers to anchor full-day itineraries. Cultural institutions, local attractions, and special events can leverage these important ad placements to drive ticket sales and generate awareness of nearby destinations, influencing spontaneous decision making while consumers are already exploring the area.
